Male Rhinoplasty and The History of Rhinoplasty

Male rhinoplasty surgical operation is just one of the most recent advancements in rhinoplasty, a technology and procedure many habitancy know as a great wonder of cosmetic surgery. This technology first started becoming popular when women sought after a way to get their noses fixed, and recently, men have gotten into the craze. But this procedure, both women and men, has been colse to for years, millennia even!

Many scientists and historians believe that rhinoplasty first appeared in India, in 500 Bc, when an Ayurvedic doctor named Shushruta and his students repaired the amputated noses of habitancy who were accused and convicted of crimes, and punished. It is said that the forehead flap technique, that is, taking skin from the forehead, twisting it, and grafting it onto the damaged area of the nose in an endeavor to rebuild it, was first done while this time. The technique is so effective, that even today, the procedure has barely changed.

Damage History

From that moment on, rhinoplasty has existed in some form or another in that region of the world. But it wouldn't be until the 18th century that the West would ultimately have their first taste of rhinoplasty. European surgeons, such as Dr. Johann Dieffenbach and Jacques Joseph would be among the first Europeans to experiment with the procedure, laying the groundwork for future doctors to build up and enhance the technology.

For a time, the only ready rhinoplasty procedure was the accomplished rhinoplasty technique, which was done intranasally. And then, after some time, a doctor named Wilfred Goodman published a paper showing the technique on how to perform open rhinoplasty, a technique that is done outside of the nose.

Upon its publishing, it fast became a very popular method of doing rhinoplasty, and was the preferred method for first time patients, but not those who needed a revision nose job. It stayed this way until yet another doctor, Jack Gunter, published a set of procedures how to do open rhinoplasty for revision nose jobs.

It's spectacular, to think that a technology over 2,500 years old has gone so far, and is still being used for the same reasons today.
